Running An Online Contest
As promised, I would also like to share my experience regarding running a contest like this. By sharing my experience, I hope that you can also learn from it should you also run similar contests on your own site or blog.
Here’s what I probably did wrong with the contest and what I should have done to make it more successful. Think of this as a case study of an online contest. After reading this, I would really like you to give me your inputs on how to make an online contest better.
- I shouldn’t have made the contest too long. Two months is way too long for an online contest. I should have made it shorter so as not to lose the initial momentum. The excitement and buzz around it faded away after some time.
- I should have made it easier to enter the contest. Requiring everyone to subscribe before entering the contest seems like a bad move now. I guess people want to enter the contest but they don’t necessarily want to subscribe to my blog.
- I should have placed the contest form in a more conspicuous manner. A feedback that I got from one of my subscriber is that he didn’t notice the contest form at all after subscribing. I didn’t realize this but I did made changes to it near the end of the contest.
- I should have given it more marketing boost. Instead of just writing about the contest on my blog and posting about it on Twitter and Facebook, I could have sent the contest details to some online contest directory to give it more attention.
